Students and Accommodations 1. Identify current classroom accommodations for students with disabilities. Current classroom accommodations that are in place consist of: • Assigned seating for those who need less distractions • A curriculum and teaching style that caters to visual, auditory, kinesthetic, verbal, social, and solitary learners. • The classroom has proper lighting, happy and calming colors, and a quiet place to collect yourself. • Both English and Spanish are spoken in the classroom. • Written and visual class rules displayed. Having all of these accommodations in place and with a help of a full time aide I am able to help the student learn at his/her own level of learning. 2. Develop ideas for accommodations, including technology that may be effectively implemented now or in the future. Ideas for accommodations with technology that may be effective in my classroom are creating a listening center with adjustable headphones and a learning station with IPad. In the smaller groups or groups of four, I will be able to observe the students more closely, interact with each one in the small group more effectively, and spend less energy going over the directions multiple times. In the one on one teaching, I can interact more to build trust and strength the bond between a teacher and student. I will be able to slow down and take our time on a lesson or I can speed up and move to the next lesson depending on student abilities. Finally, in the peer teaching, the students can work together to solve problems, work on lessons, and play at learning centers to teach each other social, emotional, and academic skills. The students can explain what I want in a different way to help others
