October 24, 2017- Wonder Summary pages 1-20 Today I will be writing about the book called Wonder by R.J. Palacio. The book is about a young boy named August, who looks unique, finds out that he’s going to school for the first time, he finds out at his best friend’s, Christopher's house, a person at his house gives a test, which Auggie (August) thinks that the test is an IQ test, and it really is a test to see if Auggie can get into a school. The day afterward Auggie gets to meet the principal, Mr.Tushman, on the drive to meet the principal, Auggie’s father makes jokes about his professor Miss.
In the novel Wonder by R. J. Palacio, Jack Will and Summer Dawson, two students in August’s class, tell their points of view on August’s transition from being home schooled to attending a private school. Summer Dawson, one of August’s friends, has people in their class asking her why she hangs out with August, but they always call him names when talking about August; “[...] kids… [ask] me why I hang out with ‘The Freak’ […] [and] Zombie Kid.” (Palacio 119). August can never have a normal experience at school because of his face, and his classmates only make it worse.
In the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio, readers learn many details about August’s transition into middle school and new life at Beecher Prep through the perspectives of his friends Jack and Summer. For example, Jack explains August’s excellence in school as he shared that “[he] thought [August would] be behind everyone because he hadn't gone to school before. But in most things he’s ahead (Palacio 142).” All of his peers assumed that August would be the most uneducated kid to ever walk through the door at Beecher Prep, but August beats all the odds and becomes one of the smartest students in his class. Despite his unfortunate facial deformity, August manages to to defy the stereotypes of his classmates and prove his intelligence.
For my realistic fiction book, I read, Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. The setting of Wonder, is Beecher Prep, in North River Heights, Manhattan. Beecher Prep is the main character, August Pullman’s, school. August Pullman is a boy in 5th grade who has a disease called, Treacher Collins Syndrome, this causes him to look different from all the other kids, which ultimately is the main conflict.
In the novel Wonder by R.J Palacio, a number of symbols help to show Auggie's journey as he goes through the struggles of school. The different symbols and how they represent Auggie's journey are referred to throughout the novel. Auggie's masks, his Padawan braid and the universe are all used to symbolise his journey. Along the story line, Auggie wears a range of different masks.
In the novel 'Wonder,' by R.J Palacio. The author displays key issues and important ideas on how to deal with it for young adolescents in a modern day setting, in a typical American school told in a bildungsroman tale about an 11-year-old boy who has a facial deformity. He faces issues of bullying, discrimination, appearances and the challenges of friendship. Later in the novel, he learns how to overcome these challenges.
In this scene, we also get a close up of him walking through the hallways. In this scene, he has a sad expression on his face as kids stare and avoid being near him. This again shows us he need the encouragement from himself to work through school. Auggie starts to accept his looks when the girl and others start to sit and be friends with him. Auggie stopped hiding from others and is exposed to everyone in the school.
Imagine going somewhere that you would absolutely despise going to. You go there, and after you arrive home, you think about your experiences there and realize that you actually had a delightful time! This is how Auggie, from R.J. Palacio’s book, “Wonder” feels. Auggie is a 10-year-old boy who has been homeschooled his whole life. Everything about him is normal, except for his face.
Some babies are born with thick hair while others are born with barely any noticeable hair. The range of normality when comes to the growth if babies hair is quite wide. Don’t get too much attached to your baby’s thick hair nor worry about his baldness. Both are not going to remain the same.
in the novel we can see that the author is informing the reader that, a single act of kindness helps us move on with life. The first way we see how a single act of kindness helps us move on with life is in the cafeteria when Auggie expects that no one will sit next to him because of his deformity. However one student named Summer, who is in the popular group in school, sits next to Auggie. On pg (51) “Hey, is the seat taken?”
