A company that exemplifies great social media marketing is iHeartRadio. Clear Channel Communications, now iHeartMedia, was first introduced through an app in 2008. Its purpose is to function as a music recommender system and as a radio network that contains over 800 local iHeartMedia radio stations across the United States. IHeartRadio is available online, via mobile devices, desktops, automotive, in-home entertainment and on select video-game consoles. In 2014, they started an awards show titled iHeartRadio Music Awards. In 2013 is when iHeartRadio began adding stations from outside of the United States like Canada, United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, and Australia. During their 2015 iHeartRadio Music Awards, they were able to increase their social media impressions by nearly seventy-five percent. According to Chris William, chief product officer for iHeartRadio, these awards generated more than 14 billion social impressions, driven in part by local radio stations and personalities engaging in a live, real-time conversation with fans before, during, and after the awards, both on-air and through social (Tode, Chantal). They were able to take advantage of social media by incorporating behind-the-scenes broadcasts on Twitter’s Periscope, and a Snapchat’s ‘Our Story’ which was made from audience’s snapchats. Not only did the fans contribute to posting to ‘Our Story’, but many celebrities also partook in this which made it very engaging as a second screen experience. With iHeartRadio using its strategy of real-time through social media, they are also involved with creating live events as apart of their main strategy. They host more than 20,000 live events per year nationwide which is mainly targeted to those who are not able to travel to see
