Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, is a realistic fiction novel about a group of boys secluded on an island. The book focuses a lot on how the boys choose to fight rather than work together to fix problems. The main theme in Lord of the Flies is that accepting others is key to a peaceful society. This relates to the world today in many ways, including immigration. Immigration is common and gives people opportunities to make their dreams come true. Without immigration, none of us would be where we are today. Moving around helps us find what we want in life. It has been proven multiple times that immigrants are a net positive for our economy. In a 2011 study conducted by the Institute for Taxation and Economic Policy, illegal immigrants paid over $11.2 billion in state and local taxes. Not only is this a significant amount, but it is even more important to mention that they are paying for social services even legal immigrants are not eligible for. According to a study done by a UCLA professor, legalizing the undocumented immigrants in America would create immense GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth. He discovered that legalizing immigrants would give us over $1.5 trillion to U.S. GDP in the first 10 years. He also found that we would gain $4.5 to $5.4 billion in tax revenue after legalization in the first three years (Fitz 1). The fact that the undocumented immigrants in America pay taxes and their fees proves that they want to support our country and create futures here. Immigrants, legal or illegal, come to our country to work and make dreams come true. Why should we take that
