Does our political party identification contribute to our views on abortion? The meaning of pro-life is the concept that a person believes abortion is wrong and everyone, no matter how big or small has the right to live. The meaning of pro-choice is a person that believes abortion should be legal and a private decision between a woman and her physician. (ontheissues.org) Many individuals believe that “traditionalist” Republicans is pro-life and “modernist” Democrats is pro-choice. (CITATION) What if that is not the case? According to the encyclopedia Britannica the criteria for being a Republican and a Democrat: Republicans advocate for reduced taxation as a means of stimulating the economy and tend to oppose government regulation of the economy, including government-funded social programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. (Republican Party, Britannica) Most, but not all, favor increased regulation of the noneconomic, private aspects of citizen’s lives such as policies on abortion. Republicans are in favor of a strong military presence and the aggressive pursuit of U.S. national security interests. It uses the words stated in the Declaration of Independence that “all citizen’s have unalienable rights,” even though the topic abortion was not discussed during the time of the drafting of the Declaration of Independence. The article then brings up how new science can show a child with an ultra-sound in the womb and the image of the baby on the screen confirms the life of the child who has a right to live. Later, it then argues the decision between Roe v. Wade should be reversed and rejected due to the fact it legalizes the murdering of unborn babies. Finally, at the end of the article it states that a generation could pass and the opinion on abortion will still matter and everyone will always have a different opinion on that controversial topic. “It is a moral issue because it confronts fundamental issues of right and wrong, of life and death,”(RNCforlife.com.)
