English is globally accepted as an international language as it is the most widespread medium of international communication; both because of the number and geographical spread of its speakers and because of the large number of non-native speakers who use it for part at least of their international contact. British colonization in the nineteenth century and the economic influence of the United States in the twentieth century are believed to be the prominent reasons why English has occupied the present status in the global linguistic scenario. Braj K. (1986) pointed out that there are more non-native than native users of English in the world. According to Carla P. (2005), non-native English speakers now outnumber native ones 3 to 1 (also see Strevens P. 1982; Larry S. 1983; and Randolph Q. and Widdowson H.G.1985). It is evident that English will flourish further and expand its usage because it is the language with most native speakers in the world, the widely accepted lingua franca, the dominant medium of instruction in school, colleges and universities, the language by which world’s business, politics, information and entertainment and innovations are shared with its valued recipients. Almost all countries in the world use English language either as their first language or native language or as second or medium language.
