Question: To what extent is the uptake of research in your practice is hindered or facilitated by organisational and social factors.

This piece of write up explored the extent to which organisational and social factors hindered the uptake of research in my practice and the key areas to look at are whether my organisation is shaped by references to research evidence or are they shaped by traditional ways of doing things. This question is tackled under two different headings namely organisational and social factors. Organisational setting and structure, environment, training and development, time and fear of change and pay scale were discussed under organisational factor while the influence of regulatory and inspection bodies and the media …show more content…

In my own case the environment is another factor that hinders the uptake of research. Care workers seldom have enough time and space to conduct evidence based research intervention. My organisation mode of operation believes that doing things the old ways saves them times and also eliminate their fear of change. I have also seen that Carers have their own doubt when it comes to new interventions because the they think they may fail or the new ways of doing things may not work .Time is another factor that can hinder the uptake of research unconsciously, workers are unable to follow the polices that are based on research because they are running against time, in many cases; carers maybe allocated more than three clients in a day and they have to drive around to meet the needs of their clients, even if there is a new intervention based on research someone may have started it but there is always lack of continuity because the cares are overworked and tired of driving around

In many cases workers are under paid therefore workers sees the adoption of evidence based approach as additional job they are not paid for. So carers prefer to follow the old way they know because they believed it saves time, sometimes the services users themselves prefer to stick to their old ways of receiving care rather than trying evidence based approach as some are afraid of trying new
