While researching the topic educational policies there where so many topics such as, No Child Left Behind, Sex Discrimination, and teacher salary, but none of these subjects interested me. As I continued researching, I came across the education policy known as IDEA, the individual with Disabilities Education Act. I felt this topic was a big impact on today’s society because most kids with disabilities are treated very unfairly by kids, adults, and even teachers. Disabilities are more than just handicaps; It could be a person who just cannot keep up as well as everyone else. This act required all public schools accepting federal funds to provide equal access to education and one free meal a day for children with physical and mental disabilities Following this act, was the IDEA act, which was proposed in the Early 2000’s. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is the main federal statute that authorizes federal aid for the education of more than 6 million children with disabilities nationally. In the times they did, it was in isolation from other students without disabilities. Segregation was the norm. When then EAHC was brought along it was very different in the late 1900’s, but now the IDEA act has come along a long way and help many children and parents feel different about their education. Now kids are able to be in a normal environment not feeling as if the have to be isolated into a group. One major change which is now important in today’s society is the size of the federal commitment to funding special education programs. Today federal special education funding is $11.5 Billion a year. (Marron
