In the 18th century that ws the start of the work factories we are familiar with today. But these were the first generations of factories utilized wind mills, water mills, and wood for energy. "some parts of the world developed literate industrial societies with metal tools, other parts developed only no literate farming societies, and still others retained societies of hunter gatherers with stone tools", (diamond, pg. 13). It being the first generation of this new technology put a limit on the range and scope of these early factories.
