This song talks about inequality and fighting against oppression. This is a growing problem still to this day, because there will always be someone with a “I'm better than you” mentality. This song is about taking action to avoid oppression. Marley wrote it with Peter Tosh, and the song was influenced by their upbringing in Jamaica, where they had to fight for respect and acceptance for their “Rastafarian religion” says songfacts. The song, “Get Up, Stand Up” performed by Bob Marley addresses the issue of inequality when analyzed using a cultural lens.

The rich people deny opportunities to those who are poor. The poor work for almost little to none and struggle to achieve a basic human standard of living such as having food and shelter. The poor are constantly watched and controlled by the oppressors and prevented from organizing or resisting the power of the wealthy. Or you can look at it instead of poor people what if they were immigrants. The immigrants are not allowed to participate in the political process and are not protected by the laws that apply to citizens. The immigrants can be forced to work for low wages and are denied basic services such as access to food and health care. Just because they aren't native to this country doesn't mean they shouldn't have a chance to get assistance we are all human we all bleed the same red
