Informal Response #2 As the semester progressed, I actually found myself enjoying an English course for the first time since high school. I especially enjoy this course because we get to read many different stories, unlike my other courses which revolved around writing. Of course I do enjoy writing but a whole bunch of it could be suffocating. I really enjoyed the materials we covered this semester because; we get to see how writings changed through time. Also, I like envisioning the characters that the Authors form in our minds. From all of the stories we have read in this course, most of the stories I had actually enjoyed are the fiction stories.
One of my favorite pieces would have to be Edgar Allan Poe’s “Ligeia.” I really enjoyed this short story by Poe because of the buildup in suspense, the whole time you are reading it, you know some dark things are about to occur but don’t know what it is. Furthermore, by the end of the story you still don’t know exactly what’s going on. My least favorite piece would have to be “Young Goodman Brown” by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Although I felt the piece was clever, Brown’s hallucinations started getting on my nerves. The …show more content…

From being able to more effectively read a certain author’s piece with biographical criticism, to seeing how ethnocentrism took part in American literature. Yet, the most surprising thing to me would have to be the influence and impact that some of these old texts has on modern day stories. Although, for the most parts I really enjoy the materials we’ve gone over, I find some things about the materials frustrating. Reading some of the old letters from Christopher Columbus himself and finding out all the dark things he so casually written is frustrating. However, what I find most frustrating is interpreting some of the old texts into something I could
