In 1913, an organization called the American Society for the Control of Cancer (ASCC) was established in New York City “by ten physicians and five laymen” (Philpott). Cancer was rarely discussed in public at this time in history; “information concerning this illness was cloaked in a climate of fear and denial” (American Cancer Society: History). Thus began the ASCC’s journey to raise public awareness about cancer. To do this, “they wrote articles for popular magazines and professional journals, published a monthly bulletin of cancer information, and recruited doctors to help educate the public” (Our History). This organization would later become known as the American Cancer Society (ACS) in 1945.

The daily killer of over twenty thousand people and over 7.3 million people a year has heavily affected families all over the world for centuries. Because this disease has over 100 types and has proven lethal for so many men, women, and children everywhere, cancer has earned the the title of being the number one cause of death in the United States and one of the top causes of death in the world as a whole. Many scientists and doctors have tried to solve the medical puzzle that is cancer, but no definite cure has been discovered. However, tons of progress has been made and treatments have changed drastically since before 1950 compared to today. (Paddock 2007)

Although composers of documentaries reflect objectivity when presenting their case, they do however stretch the truth through manipulation. A documentary is a representation of reality. However, the composer’s ability to distinguish between reality and representation can raise a question about the nature, the truth and objectivity of the documentary. A variety of film techniques are used to help showcase the objectivity of the documentary, however they easily manipulate the audience’s perspective through exaggeration of the truth. Michael Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine” (2002) is a satirical documentary confronting controversial issues including the alarming gun crime statistics in United States.
Cancer is a disease that can affect anyone and has unfortunately increased in rate in the past years. Managing a cancer diagnosis is usually a very hard and stressful situation for people and family members. Becoming more informed about your diagnosis should be easily accessible and uncomplicated, therefore, the National Cancer Institute (NIH) should be one of the websites to go, when in need of information regarding cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute’s, overview and mission statement, this website is one of the government’s primary sources of cancer research and training. Meaning that the website and information are mostly funded and reviewed by the federal government.

This campaign was used to promote awareness of lung cancer that more people can get tested for this cancer earlier which could save their life. It provide healthcare professionals tools and resources to support them in the treatment and identification of lung cancer so that this disease can be monitored more effectively. However, organisations can monitor this more effectively by setting remind check ups on certain age groups so that treatment can be given to the individual soon as possible rather than at a later stage when it could be too late for that
Over the past few years, cancer has become a world wide disaster. Imagine a world without this horrible disease! Its even a nightmare what exactly causes cancer. When a diagnosis is made, a patient is left confused on the way forward. Caregivers should therefore be well informed, on what the treatment entails.
Guiding Premise My philosophy of nursing is that it is a healing ministry and a way to be the hands and feet of Christ. It is a profession where I can meet people in their vulnerability and do what I can to help them and heal them. I get the unique opportunity to show my patient’s Christ’s love when they most desperately need it.

Purpose: The purpose of this speech is to remind people that their health is the most important aspect of life and to take measures at the beginning of their lives to prevent future problems that may arise.

With this fellowship, I have goals of not only seeking to address the diverse needs of different populations, but also contributing to the vast public health and health promotion field to increase health equity while simultaneously addressing various risk factors among all populations. After graduation, I aspire to consistently contribute to the ongoing battle waged against cancer, cancer health disparities and the environmental factors that contribute to cancer conditions. Working in your prestigious fellowship capacity, I will bring viable and sustainable solutions to both individuals and the community to assist in the diminution of cancer worldwide. No other field can bring me the same level of personal or professional satisfaction and gratitude.
