George W. Bush remarks,“All of us have God-given talents. And I think ultimately we’ll be judged on whether we used those talents in a positive way or a destructive way. I hope it is written about me that I lived life to the fullest, that I realized my talents came from the good Lord and that I used them to make my community a better place”(Hughes). George W. Bush encountered many difficulties throughout his presidency including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and the war in Afghanistan. At a very young age,George H. Bush, his father moved his family to Odessa, Texas for his job with International Derrick & Equipment Company where he painted oil machines. As he learned the oil business, he moved the family to Midland, Texas where George H. Bush and his partner John Overbey started there own business called Zapata. Bush’s father and uncle graciously gave Bush $350,000 to start his new oil business. His father’s business continued to grow in profits, which allowed Barbara Pierce Bush to conceive more children. Starting in 1949 all the way through 1959, Barbara added Pauline Robin, Jeb, Neil, Marvin, and Dorothy Walker into her family. George being the oldest sibling loved playing pranks on his brothers, one of the main reasons they looked up to him. Tragedy struck the family when Robin was diagnosed with Leukemia at four years old. Her parents flew to New York for her treatments until her death that year. Robin’s death affected Bush and his parents. Barbara remembers overhearing Bush talking to a friend after the tragedy, “I can’t come out and play, I have to play with my mother, She’s Lonely,”(Hughes).
