What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis has a storied past that dates back over 200 years. It was originally created by Franz Anton Mesmer, but the name was not coined until 1843. This mental state is something that you normally experience when daydreaming or when you lose track of time while driving. It is similar to your mental state when you are completely absorbed by a television show, book or sporting event. During hypnosis, your brain waves change so that you are alert, but relaxed enough to accept suggestions.

Despite movies to the contrary, you cannot be forced to do something against your will during hypnosis. Hypnosis can only enhance your capabilities to do what you already want to. If you are told in hypnosis to do something completely contrary to your beliefs, you would not do it. For example, you could not be hypnotized to rob a bank unless you were already willing to do that.
What types of results are possible?
There are numerous studies about the result possible through hypnosis.
