Failure for Moorestown girls lacrosse is not an option. This powerhouse lacrosse program had a winning streak of eighty-eight consecutive games. My sophomore year the program experienced their first loss in what seemed like forever. Continuously, the timer on the scoreboard got closer to triple zeros, everyone’s hearts went into their throats anticipating the end. The opposing team was up by one and were stalling the ball.
Nifong and the Duke Lacrosse case highlight several key institutional failures of the justice system in regards to prosecutorial discretion, prosecutor accountability, and the prosecutors dilemma. Prosecutors are considered by many to be the most powerful actors in the courtroom proceedings as they follow the case from the time of arrest to the sentencing. Prosecutors have a lot of discretion in the justice process as they are the ones who decide: Do I prosecute? Who do I prosecute?
It eventually grew to become a nationally recognized college sport, currently with 71 Division 1 men’s teams. Presently, there are nine professional field lacrosse teams, and nine professional box lacrosse teams. The game is growing faster than ever, with around a million participants worldwide. Most high schools now have lacrosse programs, and there are community lacrosse clubs all over the nation.
To the faculty of the Newman School, I am honored to be considered for the John Henry Cardinal Newman Chapter of the National Honors Society. In the spring of my freshman year at Newman, I was approached with the opportunity to study French III in my sophomore year. Having only introductory knowledge of the language, I accepted this challenge. Despite encountering advanced material, as well as working and participating with upperclassmen, I was able to earn a cumulative A- for the class.

College football has to play 12 games and the top 12 teams would be able to go to the playoffs. College football is a large league made up of 130 teams fielded by college, universities, and academies and the players can stretch into triple digits. These teams are split into 10 different conferences. It can last up to 1-4 years, depending on what college you attend and how good you are. A defensive holding penalty is 10 yards in college football.

Before playing lacrosse, I was not committed to doing anything. I lacked discipline and it showed throughout my daily life. For example, during the years I was in elementary school I would be placed into low-skill level classes, goofing off, and having complete disregard for my future. It wasn’t until I started playing lacrosse that I saw how important it was to take academics seriously.

An Argument for College Sports Ever since I can remember I have been a die-hard Oklahoma fan. No doubt this is due to my father’s love for team, which was passed down by his father. I guess it runs in our family, because every Saturday during football season most of my is family huddled tightly around our TV watching the game.
