Conflict This serves as the background for a conflict regarding the proper handling of a struggling female airman who had difficulty maintaining fitness standards. The female airmen in question had been on and off the remedial fitness program several times throughout her career. At the time of the conflict, she was able to pass enough times to remain in the service. On her third time in the remedial program, she began to complain of unfair treatment by the senior ranking member in the detachment. The detachment where she worked had was not typically structured like most units. It was an enlisted-only staffed unit. She was often accused of dodging mandatory training sessions or not putting her full effort into the program. This led to a distrust of her in all respects regarding her job and eventually how she conducted her personal life. He viewed her as being unreliable one of his hot buttons. This in turn led him to be abrasive and micromanaging which were some off her hot buttons. What began as a the highest ranking person ensuring good and order and discipline of a unit by enforcing military standards devolved into an Inspector General investigation. Additionally, she also accused him of being over-involved in her personal affairs. Citing one exchange where he told her she should reconsider having children because she was so heavy. Furthermore, the airman said that the Senior was deliberating digging up other non-fitness related evidence to drum her out of the service. Evidence such as adultery on her part. The tension between the Senior and the airman forced members of this small unit to pick sides. At most there were only, 18 members in the detachment. That includes all of operations, maintenance and the civilian support staff. This conflict adversely affected morale of the entire unit. Many felt caught between wanting to help a co-worker/friend and being respectful to their superior. Both Master Sergeants in the detachment agreed that there were valid points on both sides. The Senior Master Sergeant was well within in his right and his duty to use the progressive discipline for a failing airman. This would eventually lead to separation from the Air Force. Both Master Sergeants agreed he lacked any compassion or empathy for the struggling airman. It only got worse when the Inspector General complaint was
