The long and the short of it--do your research, and be consistent. If you want to ease your way into it for the first couple of weeks, that's fine. There are many health benefits to be had, and, surprisingly, increased energy levels is not the least of these. If you try it and find that it is not for you, maybe think of looking at a different protocol. The 16/8 (14/10 for women) protocol outlined here works for a lot of people and is very popular.
