This interview was conducted on February 1st at 1400, with the cashier manager of Welfresh Market, at 4635 Hwy 6, Sugar Land, TX 77478. Welfresh Market is a large supermarket that sell products mainly from Asian countries—China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, India, Vietnam, and Philippines. This supermarket also provides a wide range of local produce, dairy, grocery, cosmetics, food, snacks, alcohol, home and kitchen goods, and electronics. It also has a small food court that serves freshly cooked hot Chinese food. The cashier manager stated, “Welfresh Market has over 10,000 products and offer its customers with affordable prices” (S.D., February 1, 2017). According to the cashier manager, the supermarket’s customer base consists of local Asians, Indians, Hispanics, and Americans. It mainly serves the neighborhood of Sugar Land, Missouri City, and Stafford. In Sugar Land, it is the second biggest Asian Supermarket with 99 Ranch Market being the first. 99 Ranch Market is a franchise supermarket while Welfresh Market is privately owned. Therefore, 99 Ranch Market is able to offer its produces at a cheaper price than Welfresh Market. In order to manage its competition, the cashier manager states that Welfresh Market sends out weekly ads and newsletters with weekly specials (S.D., February 1, 2017). Sometimes the supermarket offers special discounts for electronics. Welfresh Market also offers member cards and VIP memberships that provides discounts for its long-term customers.
