In the field of human services, as a helper, there are interviewing and professional skills that would be beneficial so they can better assist the client. There are certain skills needed to project to a group and certain skills to project to an individual. This is where the helper will grow to become a better helper. In this short research paper, the reader will understand what interviewing skills are needed to obtain required from individuals and groups, and what professional skills are required to effectively deliver quality services to clients and groups.

Adequately delivering services to the customer the human service professional will need knowledge about behavioral problems to consider which approaches and strategies will work. However, to provide service to the client one will have to possess verbal and nonverbal communication skills. Knowing when to ask questions without rushing the process will take practice and execution. The client will feel more open to sharing information when the helper has displayed a level of warmth, empathy, and genuineness.
Paraphrasing at times to gain clarification about the provided information shows that the assistant is engaged in the interview. The human service professional exemplifies being trustworthy, empathetic, and understanding when reflecting with the client. Furthermore, the client may have to talk about uncomfortable situations, but it is the responsibility of the helper to help with the overwhelming feeling of confrontation. By leaning in, raising and lowering eyebrows and tilting the head, the helper conveys interest without speaking and disrupting the flow of communication between the helper and client. Monitoring the tone of voice, the helper can assure the client that the helper is paying attention and makes the client feel at ease. If the helper wants to be successful in helping the group the best way possible, the helper needs to be able to listen, ask questions, reiterate and clarify what the group stated. This way everyone in the group, including the helper, is clear on what is going on and on the same page. Lastly, another skill that will better assist the helper dealing within a group is being able to write correct and detailed notes. The ability to take accurate and correct notes is important so the helper can better assist the group by developing more accurate follow up questions, interventions, and strategies.
