Employment Prospect This paper will talk about a career that does not get a lot of recognition for work that is given and the duties they do on a typical basis. This occupation is called Social and Human service assistance. This career industry provides support for families, in different fields, for example, psychology, rehabilitation, and social work. Social workers help their clients to find better benefits and community services.
Many people are supported in their homes by people who work along side the health and social care service such as social workers,nursers ,doctor and care givers or they may get support from their family members and friends. An elderly person may choose to stay in their own homes instead of a residential care home while seeking help and support from others,however this can lead to potential opportunities for abuse happening to the person who Is being looked after. When an individual is getting support at home by a carer, the individual being cared for is vulnerable and defenseless and therefor this makes them a target for abuse,another example is abuse by strangers,when an elderly person lives alone they are at risk of people calling at the door and then gaining access to their homes,they may steal items from them or mistreat them or cause intimidation. A person who is vulnerable and living alone are at risk of physical and sexual because there is no one there to stop this abuse from happening.
Access of information- Supportive practice Humanistic approach- emphasizes that each individual has great freedom in directing his/her own future, a large capacity for achieving personal growth, a considerable amount of intrinsic worth, and enormous potential for self-fulfillment. Empowering- Empowering the residence means that the workers are giving the residence power to do things independently. This would reduce abuse and neglect as the residence will be able to do things that they can independently.
Unit 1: Activity 2: Assignment 2: Journal As an individual amongst many other students, we all have our own ideas and opinions. This is what makes us different from each other and also similar in many cases. With the diversity of opinions they often depict our relationship with others and who we are compatible with. From my experience, having a different opinion about something out of the majority is not necessarily a negative thing. The people I usually hang out with are understanding and may oppose my opinion with other reasoning why my opinion may be incorrect or not as good.
After reflecting on all that you have learned in this course, share what you believe is one current trend in the human services field in meeting the needs of individuals, families, and/or the community. This course has been a revelation for me. In the past eight weeks, I learned many things about running a nonprofit organization, and I am sure I will learn a lot more. There are so many different elements that goes into managing an organization like how to build capacity, funding/budgeting, assessment tools, the role of the board of directors, and past/current trends in the field.
In the dissertation reviews the types of writing’s performed in the field of human services. While This report covers the variety of writing’s done in the field, it more so elaborates on progress writings carried out by a social worker or case manager. Also it provides information about the formats and formulas used to assemble the types of documents wrote. If chosen a career in the field of humans services, undeniable this report helps undergraduates get a glimpse of what types of writings are done, how to create them, why they are created and other job profession that allows the use of these types of writings. Human services professionals have to perform several different types of writings.
This week’s reading focuses on human services organizations and what is needed for organizations to function properly. Since I plan on into the Community and Administration Practice (CAP) concentration, I found Netting et al.’s (2012) chapter on assessing human services organizations to be very interesting. Throughout this reaction paper I will be referring to my experiences working at Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority (JPHSA), an agency in the Greater New Orleans area. This chapter starts off by discussing task one, which is to assess the organization’s environment, more specifically, who they serve, sources of funding and cultural competence. I believe working in the human service field can be challenging at times. I know in my line of work as a probation officer I will encounter so many challenges and I might not be able to fix every problem. A human service professional can be defined as someone with a passion for human needs. The challenge I will encounter as a HSP would be finding free treatment for clients with substance abuse problems. Everyday clients on DWI probation are being assist for substance abuse treatment, but don’t have the proper funds to pay for the treatment.
I learned a lot of new information from the guest speakers last week. I don’t think that I could see myself doing something like what Adrienne Gavula with ACLU does. I feel that I would get too passionate about a topic and get discouraged if things stayed the same for a long period of time. After hearing Adrienne talk I know that they usually have to wait long period of time before anything happens. I would feel that I would want some type of encouragement in order to keep working as hard as I would be.
To be in a position such a Human Services you have to be able to remain neutral in all aspects of contact with individuals. The very definition of Human Services is defined as “uniquely approaching the objective of meeting human needs through an interdisciplinary knowledge base, focusing on prevention as well as remediation of problems, and maintaining a commitment to improving the overall quality of life of service populations” (1). As humans we are taught that certain features establish us in the realm of society standards. Such as physical Characteristics that define us a male or female, our health status, or behavior in public. Anything that deviates from our “standard” has deemed as abnormal and is immediately singled out and held to a standard of judgement that may or may not be irrational or misinformed.
Human Services is a profession that improves and promotes service systems. They seek to improve accessibility and coordination among other agencies. In the following pages we will be looking back throughout history at a few of the man important historical events that influenced the field of Human Services, making it into what it is today. This includes The Social Security Act, The Older Americans Act, Medicare and Medicaid Programs, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and No Child Left Behind program. These acts and programs helped shape and widened the field of Human Services as well as created jobs.
Working in the Human Services field has shaped not only myself, but my personal competence levels. An example of this was when I interned at a private practice, focusing on mental health and coaching. The best part of my experience was the fact that I was able to empower others by providing them the resources to seek help. I engaged with many different types of individuals, some in which struggled socio-economically. This opportunity allowed me to get a glimpse into the field and I have been so excited to continue my career
Through working as a community health worker and my internship I have foritied my strengths and weaknesses as a Social Worker. In my new positions I am able to see how my role in my clients lives and how it impacts them and their families, as well as social systems they interact with. I have receided positive feedback about my proforance from my clients and evaluated ways to build-up my strengths. Through critiquing my performance, I have complied an accurate account of my strengths and weaknesses. As a Social Worker, my strengths are being passionate about the services that I am providing to my clients, showing compassion to my clients, my ability to resolve conflicts, understanding the needs of my clients, my ability to connect with people,
My understanding of Human Services is to help people who need additional help and guidence to move forward with their life. Sometimes people need help with external problems such as the loss of a job, the need for food or housing or for help getting out of a dangerous situation or mental and physical health crisis. The Human Services practitioner is a professional who acts as an agent to assist and or empower individulas, groups, families and communities to help them function more effectivly in all areas of life and improve living condition. Human Service professional will always advocate for their clients and will never give up on them and make sure to strive for the clients well being as long as the client want to change.
