King of irony has a death to match. Edgar Allan Poe was a famous author of the classic literature we see today, this dramatic writer centers his works upon irony, and ironically his death is that of one of his own stories. Edgar Allan Poe was a form of genius, he was an author that fathered the idea of suspense as the ideology of today, his stories included gruesome and gory details about mysterious deaths, and events leading to deaths. Amusingly, his own death was a mysterious case that still remains unsolved to this day. From all the gathered research conducted Edgar Allan Poe was most likely to have died from a brain tumor, this is the most plausible scenario because of the mass found in his skull, the symptoms he was having, and his state when he was found dead.
To begin, among the most recent discoveries of the man's death, there was a reported mass in Poe’s skull, said to be a potential brain tumor. During Edgar Allan Poe’s first days dead, there was much speculation regarding his reason for death, the autopsy report followed with a peculiar finding; “Newspapers of the day claimed that the clump was Poe's brain, shriveled yet intact after almost three decades in the ground” (Geiling 14). The transportation of Poe to a different burial memorial led to the discovery of the mass within the skull of the corpse. First of all, he went missing, 4 days before the date he was declared dead, Poe had a drink with a friend and was reported missing after that encounter. “Poe was never able to explain how he came to be in this condition” (Wikipedia 1). He was then found dead on October 7, 1849, his date of death raised a great deal of suspicion, as he died on election day, however, this could’ve been a mere coincidence of a suspicious nature. Henceforth, the factor of cooping was researched however it doesn’t align with the people Poe was previously seen with. When Poe was found he was “delirious and dressed in shabby secondhand clothes, lying in the gutter. The man was semi-conscious and unable to move” (Geiling 1). He was found by a man named Joseph W. Walker, it was a rainy afternoon in Baltimore when he found Poe dead in a gutter of his street. The significant peculiarity of his state was that he was wearing another man's clothes, the state of his consciousness couldn’t be directly tied to anything as he was missing for 4 days. The participation of the brain tumor is all the information needed to close this portion of the case. Poe was found semi-conscious, likely a result of the brain tumor’s worsening development. As for how he appeared in the gutter, it was likely due to the worsening hallucinations he was having
