People's personalities bleed through on their texts and accounts. Not to mention that when I'm texting my friends or scrolling through Facebook, I'm alone. You can't be alone that's such a sin. Social media promotes the exact opposite of what they stand
Truth or Tale The two articles “How Facebook Makes Us Dumber” and “When ears don’t hear, truth is futile” though different, both make a very similar argument. Each illustrate that people refuse to hear the truth, and instead trust the lies. The article, “When ears don’t hear, truth is futile” by Leonard Pitts, expresses that people will only listen to the information that appeases their already formed ideas.
“Seduced by social media: is Facebook making you lonely” by Margie Warrell is an article that talks about the negative impact of social media on our lives. The writer discusses the addicting of using social media and how we are seduced by social media. However, I agree with the writer that Facebook is making us lonely. In the beginning of the article, the writer explains what the meaning of being seduced by social media is.
Social Media Social media is online platforms where people socialize online or communicate for entertainment, dating, business, or other reasons. Most people of all ages are now using social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok on a daily basis. Unfortunately, some peolpe are using social media to spread hateful messages. Officials are still trying to find ways to manage these destructive messages and create consequences for these cyberbullies. Although some may say that these offenders should not be punished, individuals who are particiapting in cyberbullying should be prosecuted because the victims cant escape the bullying, they feel under pressure, and need a safe lpace to communicate on online
In the article “Is Facebook Making Us Lonely?” author Stephen Marche thesis is “Social media—from Facebook to Twitter—have made us more densely networked than ever. Yet for all this connectivity, new research suggest that we have never been lonelier (or more narcissistic)—and that this loneliness is making us mentally and physically ill. A report on what the epidemic of loneliness is doing to our souls and our society.” Marche goes into tons of detail on everything included on this thesis, in the passage.

It’s about Us’. Wortham discusses in her essay how Facebook is one of the biggest companies in the world today, announcing recently that it has decided to go public for a hundred billion dollars of net worth. She argues that Facebooks success comes from people becoming users, without users there would be no Facebook. They are expanding themselves to appeal to all users across the world.
I grew up in a world where I was surrounded by technology. Growing up I received my first flip phone at the end of elementary school. I still remember the exact device, it was a T-Mobile Sidekick and I loved it. It was so cool to just flip it open and was the screen rotate upwards and reveal the keyboard.
In “Faux Friendship”, William Deresiewicz talks about how friendship has evolved over the decades. Facebook has changed the world allowing people to interact with each other no matter where they are. It has strengthened friendships that normally would deteriorate and has also kept a lot of long distance relationships afloat. Although it seems like Facebook has brought people together and formed a lot of great friendships, it also has its negatives. Facebook has caused people to lose some friendships and forget how to interact with others face-to-face.
Throughout the years, many people are joining social media to feel more “socially” connected. However, according to the article, “Is Facebook Making Us Lonely?," Stephen Marche gives the reader some reasons as to why people, who are more connected to social media, are becoming lonelier. In contrast, Sena Christian, in “Beasts under the Big Top,” explains how the government imposed their bans on circus animals which result in homelessness for them. Although these articles discuss different topics, both illustrate how people’s decision could affect their future as well as animals.
This is still the early stages and some people are not good with small talk, so they feel more comfortable communicating over the internet or on the phone. Not only shy people open up but also all people open up more real and feel more comfortable due to the fact there not face to face talking. I have had multiple situations of someone saying something over text or social media about something that shouldn’t have been said or that was false. I had to go confirm and see if they really meant it. When I used to talk to this female in high school we were cool for a while then drama hit and we both took different directions from each other and never talked.
When texting or using any other type of social media that is online, all that is seen is a bunch of text bubbles with words in them. Yes, emojis will be seen, but that is pretty much it besides the rare photo. On a different not, talking in person allows all of these things to happen. While conversing with another person, if observant, facial and body language will become easy to “read”. While talking face-to-face, the other person can see whether the other partaker is mad, upset or just being sarcastic.
As we ramp up the volume and velocity of online connections, we start to expect faster answers. To get these, we ask one another simpler questions; we dumb down our communications, even on the most important matters”. People that are using social media, are constantly ruining the meaning of communication for themselves and others. The quality of conversation has gone down which can cause social confusion. This makes it evident that people should lower their use of social media.

Social media has drawn in many teens and adults, and so that means along with communication comes rude or nice people. In the 21st century social media has been the most favored tool used by the people. Even though some may disagree, social media brings in may mean and unwanted people. Facebook does make you mean because people can post mean comments, they can misinterpret online communication, and the nice people can take their mean side out online.
