Truth or Tale The two articles “How Facebook Makes Us Dumber” and “When ears don’t hear, truth is futile” though different, both make a very similar argument. Each illustrate that people refuse to hear the truth, and instead trust the lies. The article, “When ears don’t hear, truth is futile” by Leonard Pitts, expresses that people will only listen to the information that appeases their already formed ideas.
“Seduced by social media: is Facebook making you lonely” by Margie Warrell is an article that talks about the negative impact of social media on our lives. The writer discusses the addicting of using social media and how we are seduced by social media. However, I agree with the writer that Facebook is making us lonely. In the beginning of the article, the writer explains what the meaning of being seduced by social media is.
Author and editor of two magazines, Lauren Tarshis in the essay, Is Facebook Making You Mean?, published on September 5, 2011 in a classroom magazine addresses the topic of online bullying through the popular social networking site, Facebook, and argues that these sites should be used responsibly to ensure the safety of all users. Tarshis supports her claim first by providing incidents and facts that prove the immense effects rude comments and thoughtless jokes have on the person receiving them. Second by, making an emotional appeal to her audience which creates a unity between the reader and writer. Finally by, establishing her credibility as a writer by providing an extensive amount of educated assertions supported by scientific studies.
Social Media Social media is online platforms where people socialize online or communicate for entertainment, dating, business, or other reasons. Most people of all ages are now using social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok on a daily basis. Unfortunately, some peolpe are using social media to spread hateful messages. Officials are still trying to find ways to manage these destructive messages and create consequences for these cyberbullies. Although some may say that these offenders should not be punished, individuals who are particiapting in cyberbullying should be prosecuted because the victims cant escape the bullying, they feel under pressure, and need a safe lpace to communicate on online
In the article “Is Facebook Making Us Lonely?” author Stephen Marche thesis is “Social media—from Facebook to Twitter—have made us more densely networked than ever. Yet for all this connectivity, new research suggest that we have never been lonelier (or more narcissistic)—and that this loneliness is making us mentally and physically ill. A report on what the epidemic of loneliness is doing to our souls and our society.” Marche goes into tons of detail on everything included on this thesis, in the passage.

She is being neutral as she does not use bias language in this article. She provides various researches which proved that Facebook does make its users unhappy. Besides, there are also research findings which proved that Facebook does give some benefits. The author used general languages through which she is being objective to inform the public about this issue.
Throughout the years, many people are joining social media to feel more “socially” connected. However, according to the article, “Is Facebook Making Us Lonely?," Stephen Marche gives the reader some reasons as to why people, who are more connected to social media, are becoming lonelier. In contrast, Sena Christian, in “Beasts under the Big Top,” explains how the government imposed their bans on circus animals which result in homelessness for them. Although these articles discuss different topics, both illustrate how people’s decision could affect their future as well as animals.

When texting or using any other type of social media that is online, all that is seen is a bunch of text bubbles with words in them. Yes, emojis will be seen, but that is pretty much it besides the rare photo. On a different not, talking in person allows all of these things to happen. While conversing with another person, if observant, facial and body language will become easy to “read”.
