Gianna Llamas Mr. Sathea ERWC 12 10 April 2024. Is Hamlet Insane. Hamlet has gone mad. It is unfortunate that he has lost his sanity, especially because it is not his fault. Hamlet is the only one, besides King Claudius, that knows how Hamlet Sr. died, and his mother and the king are newly married. He is also trying to cope with the fact that he lost a woman he loved, Ophelia. Hamlet even goes on to talk about how he has thought about self-inflicted death. All of these aspects of Hamlet’s life create a giant problem for him to handle on his own, with no one to talk to. Hamlet talks to his dead father’s ghost in the woods when it is revealed that he, Hamlet Sr., was murdered by his own brother. Both Laertes and Polonius, Ophelia’s brother and father, were quite skeptical about Hamlet. Polonius even forbade Ophelia from seeing him ever again. Both Hamlet and Ophelia were heartbroken by this. With everything going on in Hamlet’s life, this was just another burden that he had to deal with alone.
