Is Modeling as Pretty as it Looks?
Am I supposed to look like that too? How do all the people on the tv look like that?..
Counting calories and dieting started becoming popular in the 1920’s. When it comes to the topic of the modeling industry, most of us will agree that models are readily looking slimmer and taller. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question: Are our models a bad influence on the youth? Whereas some are convinced that modeling is making individuals question their appearance, others maintain the opinion that people are simply blaming the fashion industry for making models appear “perfect”. Many may argue that models are the face of the advertising world, and without them people wouldn't have a real life example of what the end product looks or works like. However, there is evidence that today’s models have a negative impact on the youth, and are a danger to themselves.
In the modeling industry, if you work hard enough, you have the opportunity to earn a vast amount of income. Models get to be the first to wear fabulous designer clothes, shoes, and accessories. Cathy Gould believes that being a healthy and beautiful model is important, but it is unacceptable when the officials start making the model change themselves into someone they are not, or when the industry begins discriminating the model. Cathy Gould states, “I understand they want to set this tone of healthy, beautiful women, but what about discrimination against the model and what about the freedom of the designer?" (“The skinny On Models”). If models had more rights while on the job and were supported no matter what size or height they are, it would help benefit both
