Are the themes and ideas from Romeo & Juliet still relevant today? To answer that question, yes, the themes and ideas from Romeo & Juliet are still yet relevant today because, in Romeo & Juliet, we can see that a lot of the events that were taking place during the play still hold some significance today in the present day. For example, in Romeo & Juliet, there's plenty of violence that was taking place throughout the play, such as family feuding. Although family feuding may not be relevant today, as it was in the past, gang violence taking place today is very similar to the family feuding that occurred in Romeo & Juliet. And so, the themes and ideas of Romeo & Juliet are still relevant today. One reason Romeo & Juliet is still relevant today is that hatred is still present today. Our main characters, Romeo and Juliet, fall in love throughout the play. Although, their love may not be like the way we love, it still shares some key similarities. We want love just like how Romeo and Juliet want love. But, the thing that's so different about our love compared to ours is that they decide to escalate things quickly. Some of us today sometimes decide to escalate things to a further point and potentially end up getting married even after knowing a person only about a day or two. In lines 58-59, Act 3, of Romeo & Juliet, it states that "Then plainly know my heart's dear love is set... on the fair daughter of rich Capulet." This quote from Romeo & Juliet shows Romeo is planning to get married to Juliet, although they've only each other for a short period. In the present day today, sometimes, the same thing occurs with most people; they choose to move onto to the next stage of the relationship rather quickly, just like Romeo & Juliet, then rather taking things slowly
