As people try to prove that being gay is biological, individuals like Robert Kuzig writes in his essay “Finding the Switch” “Homosexuality was not a biological trait at all but a psychological defect” (88).People who disagree with me and say that being gay is a choice use many arguments that make a person think or question one’s self. People who say that it’s a choice use the argument that people who are gay do not have figures to look up to of their same sex in their lives. Another argument, that is also used, is that there are no gay animals or forms of living in nature. People who use this argument say that being gay is simply a choice that results from bad parenting. Being in favor of homosexuality, John Corvino brings up several arguments and counter arguments as to why homosexual sex is deemed as unnatural in our society. People say they do not believe in this because of their religion, the way they were raised, etc. Homosexuals have been battling with the courts since the 1900’s. In 2014, 31 states had constitutionally defined marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman; however, the other 19 states allowed same-sex marriage.

Sexuality was seen by many as a sort of line with sexuality on one end and asexuality on the other with many different sexualities such as demisexual and gray-asexual in the middle where sexual attraction is only felt occasionally. While many asexual may want no part in sex whatsoever, many do and participate in the same way as you would expect every sexual person to. These people are known as sex positive in the community as they have no aversion to the subject. This may be for themselves or because they understand their partner enjoys sexual activities as a way to feel emotionally connected to the other person but asexuals do not find them to be necessary in most cases.
Understanding gender and sexuality as socially constructed categories is important because it helps people understand a certain group. Gender and sexuality is expressed in many categories and people must be careful not to mix people in the wrong category. Simply because one expresses their sexuality different from another person does not mean they should be bashed or treated differently. Sometimes it does not matter what you identify as, who you identify with, people will always judge you, so its best people just do what they want. Putting gender in a category helps others not stereotype them as something they are not.
