Social media has suddenly become a major change in the American Democracy through- out the 21’st century – persuading false information to be right. Everyday there is something new that is posted on the internet. A lot of people say don’t believe everything that is out there. There is always someone behind the words that are written causing someone to not know for sure if they are legit or not, but also persuading them into thinking that they are accurate regardless if it’s right. People then start to believe anything that is posted, convincing them into thinking something that isn’t right to be true.

Falls refers to social media as being a “power-to- the-people movement in how we communicate” (Falls 2). Giving just any person in the world power to voice an opinion could have its strengths and weaknesses. Vyacheslav W. Poloniski says, “people are encouraged to speak up online about matters they deem to be public concern, so the internet shows just how diverse public opinion can be” (Polonski). The people who speak up online are the same people who get most of their news from online sources. This already causes a threat to the opinion of the people towards democracy, however that being said social media doesn’t really play a threat in the democracy, but it does change it. With the amount of fake news that is spread throughout the internet people shouldn’t have the amount of power they have. With the amount of inaccurate information that is being handed to people it’s not fair to give them the opportunity to voice their opinion.
