Christopher Hibbert’s book “Redcoats and Rebels” is a narrative of the American Revolution told from the British point of view. The book incorporates many facts and material that most readers are not too familiar with as many books on the American Revolution are told from the American side. Discussing the war from this point of view illustrates the growing tensions This perspective provides information necessary to understand the struggles and how the British actually lost the war. AJ Langguth wrote Patriots: The Men Who Started the American Revolution with the intent of bringing a more interesting form of history to high school students and adults everywhere. The American Revolution was a war based off principles, and fought by both Loyalists and Patriots. The Loyalists believed that without the kings rule they would lose their fortune, be in chaos, and mob rule; however some were just against the brutality of war. Now the Patriots were complete opposites, patriots believed in principles, freedom;to be free from taxes, the king, the tranny they faced under the rule of the king, to be able to speak when and where you want, and to practice the religion they believe in; but who was actually right the Patriots or the Loyalists. In the novel, My Brother Sam is Dead a family struggles with the decision of being Loyalists or Patriots. War is negative because of the injustice of Life, Jerry, and Sam’s death, all of which convince Tim to become neutral.

In his focus on primary sources, Philbrick knits together firsthand accounts from various Bostonian residents such as John Adams and John Andrews with events leading up to the war. For the most part, reading each journal and firsthand documentary is refreshing, but there are various points when Philbrick's reliance upon certain accounts prove to be unnecessary and exhaustive. He references to countless sources, and while most were significant, many appeared to have miniscule relevance to the main takeaway. For instances, Philbrick purposed John Andrew's narrative to aid readers in understanding the context of everything taking place in Boston during the 1700's, but most of the information referring to Andrew's personal accounts and the British's evacuation appears

In the novel My Brother Sam is Dead, the Meeker family consisting of a Father name Life, a Mother named Susannah, a rebellious teen named Sam, and a conflicted teen named Tim, journey through the life of colonists owning a tavern during the Revolutionary War. Sam departs from his family to fight alongside the Patriots going against his Father, a Tory. War brings a lot of terrible things, but some examples are families splitting, clash of generation, and an overall theme of principle vs reality. The soldiers who fought in the war thought they were fighting for liberty, when really they caused havoc and awfulness.

More in depth details were shared about crucial moments such as the Stamp Act of 1765, the Sons of Liberty, the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and more. And how all these events that took place and led to what we are today, and for that, we should be forever grateful.
