In 610 CE A man named Muhammad was outside of a cave meditating and soon began hearing voices. As he listened he heard them say “Give birth to a religion called Islam.” Islam began to spread faster than any other religion. Other religions disagreed with this because they didn’t want to believe that Islam was bigger and better than their religion. After about 140 years, many followers of Islam had created an empire that ruled the Middle East and spread across to North Africa to Europe.
Islam spread within a span of 100 years. In 610, Muhammad made a visit to a cave on Mount Hira to pray. This experience changed his life and he realized that Allah was the one true god. After receiving Allah's words for two years, Muhammad decided it was time to talk. Soon Muhammad's teachings, called Islam, reached Europe, North Africa, and Asia.
The Islamic Empire expanded quickly by conquering a vast amount of territory and for the development and appreciation of knowledge and science. The Muslims were fair and tolerant to the people they conquered. The commander of the Muslim forces, Abd Al-Aziz, told Theodmir, the king of southern Spain, that, “His followers will not be killed or taken prisoner, nor will they be separated from their women and children. They will not be coerced in matters of religion, their churches will not be burned, nor will sacred objects be taken from his realm, as long as he remains sincere and fulfills these conditions that we have set for him” (Document B, Treaty of Tudmir, 713 CE). By making this treaty, the Spanish people were allowed to be free and practice
Another source also agrees that Spain wanted to spread Christianity. According to document E it says “What is more appropriate and beneficial for these barbarians than to become subject
According to Document A,B and C it mostly spread in the 632-750. The Qur’an teaches to be a better person, therefore most people converted muslims to be a better person. After Islam grew it gained more ground giving a major advantage in battles. Once arabs started attacking, the muslim communities had to start defending because they didn’t permit to attack one another as stated in Document D. I have stated the three main reasons why islam
Islam is a religion that controls their follower's daily lives. It quickly spread throughout many large and small civilizations all throughout the world. Two civilizations that Islam affected were the Byzantine Empire and China. The Byzantine empire was the section of Rome that remained after the fall of Rome and was a very successful civilization in its time. During the rise of Christianity, the Byzantine empire became a Christian-based civilization and used the church to solve its political and economic problems that sprang up after the fall of Rome.
Because of the high number of Muslims, Jews, and Protestants, a lot of land and wealth were confiscated for Spain. Ferdinand and Isabella used the Spanish Inquisition to make Spain one of the biggest and most powerful Catholic countries in Europe. The wealth made from the Inquisition, along with the wealth made from the Reconquista, paid for a great era of exploration, naval, and navigational
Muslims let Spaniards continue to live, but they had to agree to follow the Islamic rules and there would not be any assaults towards the Spaniards. The Doc B is a treaty for the King and states “They will not be coerced in matters of religion, their churches will not be burned, nor will sacred objects be taken from the realm, as long as he remains sincere and fulfills these conditions that we have set for him,” (Doc B). Just as Doc B brought to point that the lives of Spaniards shall go on, but all the agreements, Doc G also follows with in this standard but spoken in words of God, “Unto every one of you We appointed a law and way of life,” (Doc G). Tolerance may have been only followed because it was the words of God, yet on the long run it helped Islam be more accepted by the people and continue its expansion. With the tolerance it had included that payments must
The Mongol invasion on Baghdad could possibly be thought of as a critical moment in world history. The Mongols left a cavernous trauma on all parts of the Muslim world. It made the population drop significantly, they were left with no leader,it ruined the central points of Islamic civilization, and all of their major buildings and markets were destroyed. Despite the difficulties that Baghdad and the Islamic world faced because of this attack, Islam still stood strong to continue to be a major world religion. One of the major effects was the population drop.
This ordered and Jews and Muslims to convert to Christianity. They tortured the heretics that did not convert to catholic finally all Jews and Muslims who refused to convert were banned from Spain. The Jews and Muslims could practice their own religion but it had to be secretly done. Isabella sponsored the voyage of Christopher Columbus which brought money to Spain and a new world. When Columbus discovered the new land they were given to Castile because of Isabella’s sponsorship.
Muhammad refers to the people of the book, as in the people of the bible such as those in Spain believing in Christianity. By maintaining peace between these other religions, citizens of other faiths willingly contributed to the Islamic empire. They participated in the community like citizens of the Islamic faith, sharing ideas and partaking in trade. The religion was able to expand with the conversion of people from other religions, but more importantly the accepting nature of this religion made other Islamic innovations
The Moors were a nomadic people from North Africa, who invaded Spain, taking their Islamic religion and culture with them, in 711. The Moorish land was known as Al-Andalus and included all of the Iberian Peninsula. The Moors ruled parts of Andalucía from the 8th century until the l5th century. 800 years of Moorish rule influenced Spain, making it significantly different even today from the rest of Western Europe. The Moors not only brought their religion, but also their music, art, and architecture.
Since 1492, Spain recognized Christianity as its official religion because there was no distinction between Catholicism and Protestantism. Most of the Spanish population practiced Christianity due to Jews being banished and Muslims being converted. In 1517, the Protestant Reformation divided the Christian religion half - into Catholicism and Protestantism. Spain supported the Catholic religion, and they saw the New World as an opportunity to convert others to Catholicism. They believed that religion gave them the right to conquer new land, because they “came to serve God and to get rich, as all men wish to do,” which Bernal Diaz del Castillo said while working with Hernán Cortés in the conquest of Mexico.
Many cities came under control of strong Muslim armies, easily spreading the religion. This is shown by Document C, a map showing conquered territories, created from various sources. Document C states, “Mecca came under Muslim control by 622, Baghdad by 632, Jerusalem by 661, and Saragossa by 661.” This shows that the armies conquered many cities very quickly. Much territory is conquered within 100 years.
