Isn T Jodie Foster Contact Themes

The overall themes of science and math are evident in the film Contact. The central themes of visual and audio communication between humans and aliens from a different area of the universe are arguably scientific, although it’s Hollywood so it’s more of a pseudoscience. To begin, there are many questions posed in the duration of this movie: Isn’t Jodie Foster like 60? Why does she look 23 in this movie? Was that Matthew Mcconaughey? What is up with his hair? Was this a movie about science or God? If Jodie Foster’s dad is an alien, does that make her part E.T.? Why is it, that in the end, despite being screwed over by men throughout the entire movie, Jodie Foster ended up with one of the men who tried to screw her over? These questions are …show more content…

However, let’s discuss the science of the communication between Foster and her space dad. Initial contact begins during a satellite interference in a research field in New Mexico. The coincidence behind the contact is unavoidable, despite having scoped that area before, the only time contact was made was when Foster listened in herself, only later to find out the sender of the message was her father. This followed with several messages being transferred through rather questionable methods. For example, the use of prime numbers (once again, math, which is arguably not science as opposed to Foster’s comments) was passable in explanation, yet why go all the way into triple digits when in reality there was no need? In addition, for a civilization that is supposedly millennia ahead of Earth’s time, the use of satellite and television frequencies seems archaic. Furthermore, the lack of any method of communication on the alien planet makes it even harder to believe that those signals could have even been sent in the first place. That however, is beside the point. Assuming the contact wasn’t false, the style of it alone was strange, much less the messages received. While the prime numbers were annoying enough, the strange appeal to Hitler made it even more hostile than it intended, and added a depth of confusion. How did an alien get ahold of Nazi Germany olympic games? Once again, a big massive double-u tee eff. Then, getting past the fact that apparently aliens have the same wavelength frequencies to send TV transmissions, the encrypted messages sent were, well, unnecessarily encrypted. The style of encryption was complex and three dimensional (literally), which is nonsensical for a civilization attempting to make contact with others. The blueprints alone were complicated enough to prove intelligence. Bouncing forward, and bringing attention to that weird Russian loving gay man. First of all, that statement alone is not
