Italy embraced two different but related cultural styles in the 15th and 16th centuries: the High Renaissance and Early Mannerism. One of the most high-in-demand artists at the dawn of the 16th century was Leonardo da Vinci. As a man of many trades such as painting, inventing, engineering and music, he is most known for his trademark art pieces such as Madonna of the Rocks (1483), The Last Supper (1495-1498), and Mona Lisa (1503-1505). da Vinci painted The Last Supper in fresco, meaning oil and tempura on plaster.
