Pathos is used many times when James is trying to reach the reader 's emotional side. James Hamblin states “You can look back at your responses, remembering the good things and the feeling nostalgic or remembering the bad and feeling resilient” (Hamblin 3). He is telling the reader, when you look back at old messages, pictures, or notes they are going to have at one point either a memorable impact or an upsetting impact. By James saying this in his article he is using pathos by getting the reader to feel those emotions as if they were looking back at their memories right at that moment.
The first section of the article uses the appeal of pathos in order to convey how he feels
'Across Five Aprils' is a novel written by Irene Hunt that takes place on the farm of Creighton's family in southern Illinois during the American Civil War. This book extends five Aprils from 1861 to 1865.The American Civil war was happening between the Union and the Confederate Army. The American war is breaking families apart because of the disagreement of the concept of war. When the war begins, Creighton's son, Jethro sees that the war may be dividing north and the south from each other but also dividing people between his family. It wasn't what Jethro imagine the war would be like.
The father, who was once straightlaced and hardworking, but had now turned into a drunk, and only two of the eleven children had any hope in life. She uses this as an example of what overpopulation can do to a family and the importance of birth control. This quote, displaying the lives of torn families, is an example of Pathos. Pathos is illustrated in this quote through the sadness and disparity that the people in the stories face and the dark future that they have.
Out of The Flames Out of The Flames, by Lawrence and Nancy Goldstone, talks about the Protestant Reformation and historical figures, such as Michael Servetus, who stood up against the giant that was the Catholic Church. In the 1500s, the Catholic Church was very powerful and they controlled everything. Rebellious individuals used to come out with books against the Catholic Church. For example, Michael Servetus came out with a book called “The Errors of Trinity” which criticized the ideas of the Catholic Church.
The author has used Pathos simply to draw pity from the audience. Tim uses pathos to inspire his anger about his life from the audience to prompt an action of sympathy and emotions to the audience. Pathos has, therefore, covered how Tim Ferriss appeals to the audience’s interests of knowing why he changed his mind and how his life changed after giving himself another chance to live. He encourages the audience never to quit without giving something a trial. “But you shouldn’t conclude that without first putting them under a microscope.”
This use of pathos does not just induce sympathy and pity

The author portrays the mental limits of humans when we look at the character Ryan. Ryan at the beginning of the story was just a normal teenager, but at the end of the book he turned into a murderer.
Have you ever had to make a choice? Was that choice life or death? Most people don’t realize people living in the projects make life or death choices everyday. In the book If I Grow Up by Todd Strasser, a boy named DeShawn had to make this choice everyday. In the beginning of the book DeShawn didn’t want to join a gang called the Disciples.
He uses the pathos techniques to impact the reader’s emotions and make them feel as if they are unable to survive life without money. “It is to be scrutinized by strangers, and neglected by friends…” This quote is used to make the reader feel as if they will be criticized by strangers and even lose friends. This can also make readers feel as if they will never be accepted by society because of their wealth. In today’s society individuals still struggle from this with feeling that if they do not have the latest clothes, electronics, and cars they no longer fit in with the crowd.
Stories are the foundation of relationships. They represent the shared lessons, the memories, and the feelings between people. But often times, those stories are mistakenly left unspoken; often times, the weight of the impending future mutes the stories, and what remains is nothing more than self-destructive questions and emotions that “add up to silence” (Lee. 23). In “A Story” by Li-Young Lee, Lee uses economic imagery of the transient present and the inevitable and fear-igniting future, a third person omniscient point of view that shifts between the father’s and son’s perspective and between the present and future, and emotional diction to depict the undying love between a father and a son shadowed by the fear of change and to illuminate the damage caused by silence and the differences between childhood and adulthood perception. “A Story” is essentially a pencil sketch of the juxtaposition between the father’s biggest fear and the beautiful present he is unable to enjoy.
One example of Pathos in, “Fall Forward” is, “Every graduate here today has the training and the talent to succeed”. When Denzel says this he is inspiring the audience to succeed by having hope in them. This also causes the graduating college students to have hope and faith in themselves. Another example is, “How many ghosts are going to be around your bed when your time comes?” This could be used to encourage these college graduates to do whatever they can to accomplish their goals, so they don’t have any regrets in life when their time comes.
Through pathos, the reader feels as if they are responsible and must help. Imagery was regularly used throughout the book to describe what it was like to see how others lived. Imagery was also used to arouse emotion in the reader. The author vividly described scenes like the wars and villages he saw. This helped the reader get a better understanding of what those countries are like and how their citizens live.
He establishes a serious tone for the readers by using literary devices such as Repetition, Structure, and Imagery in order to achieve his message that indifference
The anatomy of draft horses are not necessarily the easiest to remember. There are roughly about 43 main parts that vary in every person. Since most people do not call certain parts the exact same thing even if there is a correct term there can often be some confusion. Even if there is a little bit of confusion most of the names for the part of a draft horse are very similar. Even though there are many parts in the anatomy of a draft horse lots of people still learn to memorize all these parts or at least most of them.
