Camelot vs. the Kennedy presidency What is Camelot? Is it a real time in history during which historic, strong, and mighty King Arthur of the round table was dominating the island of Brittan bringing calm with every battle he won against the tyrant Saxons with his loyal knights during ancient times? Or, more realistically perhaps, is it the idea of a time period where everything seems just right. Perhaps it is a time of peace, a prosperous, rich time of happiness for a country.
In life there are few leaders and many followers. Leaders will heavily influence their followers as well as their opposers. In times of crisis, citizens will look upon their leaders for guidance. They trust that the leader will construct an efficient solution, and that the solution benefits everyone. Truly good leaders will sway their followers towards a noble intention, an intention that will contribute to the common good.
In the novel, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph and Jack face the obstacles of being alone in a world with no rules or leaders. The boys’ behavior on the island is a microcosm of larger society. Golding proves that mankind is inherently evil, civilized only by society’s rules and expectations. Ralph and Jack share few of the same values, interpersonal skills and leadership styles; they serve as foils throughout the novel in an epic battle of good versus evil.
Kennedy called his domestic program that was known as the New Frontier. A program that was ambitiously promising to give federal funding for education to those with low income, medical care to the elderly so they gotten the best treatment. Even economic aid to people who were living in the rural regions of America as well as government intervention to help halt the recession, it was a period of temporary economic decline for all trade and industrial activities for farms and factories, causing income of profit in America to reduce. Kennedy had also promised an end to racial discrimination toward colored people. He told everyone this deal in his speech at the Democratic Convention, saying that not all problems are won through, just at many problems are not solved.
Based on my research of Martin Van Buren, I believe he succeeded in meeting the criteria of a good leader even though he was not the most popular President among the people of the United States. Not only was Van Buren a master politician, but he was also the person to create the union that later became the foundation of the Democratic Party. Before becoming the President, Van Buren served as President Andrew Jackson’s Secretary of State before becoming Jackson’s Vice President. After helping Jackson, he became the U.S. minister to Great Britain. Because of the many high positions he had throughout his life, he proved to the people of America that he was a good leader to later earn his position as the eighth President of the United States of America.
“Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes.” This quote is said by Peter Drucker. The more effort leaders put in the more effort they are going to get out from the people they are leading. The leader might be dis-liked, but being liked isn’t in the job description. Being a leader might not be that hard, but just because they are a leader doesn’t mean they are good.
George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton. With each president comes different public opinions, good and bad; were they a good president or a bad president? President John F Kennedy is one of those who gives a warm feeling to many americans. He was the face of optimism, and hope. He was the voice of a new generation.
The Dream of Perseverance The American dream is about making it through the hard times and obstacles to succeed, to make it through, one must persevere. In John F Kennedy’s ‘Inaugural Address, January 20, 1961” and Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky, November 20, 1961”, perseverance is very well represented, in different aspects. In JFK’s speech, he speaks of a free world, persevering through forces that would try and take that freedom.

Is it supporting the community, or using them as stepping stones for their own gain? Is it because the leader acts like they have endearing traits? Or because they have the wits to steer their community in the right direction for a better future?
“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” (President John F. Kennedy). John Fitzgerald Kennedy is a man who still burns bright in the memory of millions of Americans to this day. When one mentions the name John Kennedy, it resurrects numerous memories and emotions in the minds of nearly everyone. Even those born well after November 22, 1963 have great respect and admiration for our 35th president of the United States. One could ask almost every American citizen if they have heard of the name JFK and the majority would undoubtedly say yes.
A leader unites, empowers and inspires by example, not by excuses or endless blame. Tell me the national debt is a record 18 trillion and that Barack Obama has raised it more than the first 42 presidents combined. Admit that 93 million Americans are out of the workforce, nearly 50 million are on public assistance, and that the economic recovery is a sham. Admonish Iran as a destabilizing force of Islamic radicalism that must never be mentioned in the same sentence as “nuclear power". Recognize the reality every civilized nation has immigration laws and that American sovereignty, the safety and security of her people, supersedes any political ploy to stuff the ballot box beneath the hollow cries of
Wherever human beings are accumulated together in large numbers, they need leadership. Even a school needs a principle to mentor and escalate the school’s rank. Armies need generals to lead them to a courageous victory. Civilians need governments, captains of industry and intellectual leaders of thought as well. However, There are characteristics common to most great leaders that can be picked out.
"Civil Disobedience, I shall argue, is an unsuccessful attempt to combine, on the level of principle, revolutions and conventional political action" The anonymous author of "The Case Against Civil Disobedience" asserts that peaceful protesting does not play a significant role in reforming political norms. His words often ring true in protests. In many instances of Civil Disobedience, the "peaceful" protests become dangerously violent. They tend to cause more tension and discourse than they cause change. Protests lead to increased divisions between the two viewpoints, causing support for current implication to solidify out of fear of change.
What makes a leader? I believe a leader to be intelligent ,tough, and has the determination to achieve a goal. Having certain skills will have an impact on you being a trustable leader. Being selfless and caring are also characteristics. Malcolm X his birth name Malcolm Little is a fine a example of a leader and has most of these leadership qualities.
