Jack As A Parent's Ethical Dilemmas

The issue at hand here is the ethical decision whether Jack, the new movie theater attendant, should stand by his ethics and follow company policy even though no one else follows it, or if he should follow his peer’s actions of breaking policy to save a few dollars. The employee hand books states that employees are not allowed to bring family and friend to watch movies for free and employees must pay full price for concessions. However, Jack soon saw these rules being broken by other employees and even management: they brought family and friends into the movies for free, and brought personal containers for soda and popcorn to avoid paying. One of the parties involved, and are held to blame for this unethical behavior by employees are the upper management who bring guests without paying admission. Upper management are the ones who set the example for their employees to follow and are held more accountable for errors, both company and individual. By setting the example that behavior like this is acceptable and will not be punished, the employees do not believe their actions are wrong even though it breaks the code created by management in the employee handbook. The second party involved are the employee themselves who are continuously breaking employee code to save a few bucks. Since they are all expected to have read the employee handbook when they were first hired, they are expected to know and uphold the policies and rules of the company. Even though they don’t get in trouble for breaking these rules, they are still breaking them and are being unethical employees through their actions. Because they are letting people in for free and stealing concessions through bringing personal cups and filling them up are stealing money from the company. Even though it might only be $8-$20 here and there, the amounts start to add up because every employee is doing this weekly. Another party involved are the friends and family getting in for free, and the other movie theater participants because it isn’t fair that they had to pay for admission and those related or friends with the employees do not have
