Jacob's Story Of Joseph The Jealousy Of Leading Egypt

Reading about the way that Jacob felt about Joseph in comparison to his brothers and demonstrating it by giving Joseph the robe made me feel very sad for Joseph’s brothers. I can understand why Joseph’s brothers grew to be jealous of him, which in turn caused them to dislike Joseph. Jealousy leads us to do ugly things to one another as we learn in (Genesis 37: 1-36, NIV). However, Joseph being mistreated by his brothers taught him that strong feelings of pain, embarrassment, or jealousy can render poor decisions, thus is the case of Potiphar’s wife (Genesis 39:1-23, NIV). From this experience Joseph continues to grow in his faith and continues to put his trust in God. Though he is wrongfully accused of committing a crime he accepts punishment for it and goes to prison. Where he is again raised up as a leader in the prison. His honesty about the dreams that he interprets gains him respect with Pharaoh and because of his relationship with God he is seen as wise and intelligent, therefore, worthy of leading Egypt through the next 14 years in order for the country to survive. As we look at the story of Joseph in Genesis from chapters 37-41 as a whole the greatest characteristic I see in Joseph is his unfailing trust in God. As a result he is strengthened in his faith, wisdom, humbleness, and it makes him more thoughtful. These are the characteristics of a great leader. I worked in a leadership position for 8 ½ of my 9 ½ years at Big 5 Sporting Goods. Throughout my tenure there I worked with some individuals that resided on both sides of leadership and it allowed me to see the qualities that were important and strengthened teams and organizations.
