“I choose to live, not just exist.” -James Hetfield. James Hetfield is a national American singer, the face and voice of Metallica, since the beginning. James is the lead guitarist and vocalist for the well-known band. Known for hits like “Enter Sandman” and “The Memory Begins. His parents were divorced, and at a young age, lost his mother to cancer. He grew up hunting, playing guitar, and was an ordinarily quiet kid. Another member of the band, Lars Ulrich, put out an ad in 1981 for someone to play and listen to music with him. James responded, They met up, and Metallica was formed.

Almost everybody has at least heard of them once. But when they started they weren’t doing so good. The original members were: James, Lars Ulrich, Cliff Burton, and Dave Mustaine. WIth James being head singer and head guitarist. ONce they formed the band they all moved to San Fransisco together. At first, nobody wanted to sign them because of their aggressive and loud sound. Eventually James hired Bob Rock who was well-known for taking regular people making them famous. That eventually led them to start their own record label called “Black records” which started bringing people to start knowing and working with them. They wrote “punklike” music that rose at drugs, war, conformity, pollution, and any authority figure that comes to mind. A lot of his song ideas also came from his Christian Childhood which was a struggle for him. Metallica’s 1991 hit song “Enter Sandman” was based off of fears and nightmares James ahad as a a child. Before their fame, they used to get 10 dollars a day when they weren’t performing and 7 dollars a day when they were performing because they ate fee. What really made them famous was the demo tape they were using and made for practice, but it got out on accident and everybody like it, so they became millionaires from it (james’s net worth now is 300 million dollars) After they played on monsters of rock tour which gave them millions more fans.
