Jane Austen was an English novelist and writer who wrote about the gentry class of the late 18th century. Jane Austen, who was the youngest of 7 siblings, mainly brothers was born in 1775 and later died in 1817. Jane Austen and her sister had the opportunity to some education, but were mostly taught by her father and brothers. After being sent to a boarding school they returned and Jane Austen took much interest into writing her own works. Jane Austen used her experiences with her family and other families around her to write her own stories. In many of Jane Austen’s novels, she writes about families and how they functioned. Wickham's greed. Wickham would have had a hard time trying to find another wife because of how him and Lydia ran off together without already being married. In the nineteenth century if two people ran off without being married it would affect them and their families to a very long time. Most of the time no one would marry someone if they had done such a thing. “Unhappy as the event must be for Lydia, we may draw from it this useful lesson: that loss of virtue in a female is irretrievable; that one false step involves her in endless ruin; that her reputation is no less brittle than it is beautiful; and that she cannot be too much guarded in her behaviour towards the undeserving of the other sex” (Chapter 47). Lydia’s crazy behavior including the running off, will forever affect the way her and Mr. Wickham’s lives will be. Wickham only married Lydia because he was being paid by Darcy. Mr. Darcy paid ten thousand pounds in order to have Mr. Wickham marry Lydia. He did this so Elizabeth and the Bennet family would not lose anymore of their reputation. This was a big deal because Mr. Darcy and Mr. Wickham have a very rough past and do not speak to each other anymore. Lydia married Wickham because she was not very intelligent and she did not know how Mr. Wickham actually behaved. Lydia just thought that the military men were cute and
