Racism is violent! When we take a look back at history, there is nothing sadder than seeing how people were treated when they owned different skin color from others. Jane Elliott’s method, which divided the class into “in group” and “out group” and treated each group differently, had help many student realize the important of equality. Although this method might be unpleasant and insulting to some people, it is the only way to reframe people’s negative views in their mindset. People are born equally. That is the most important lessons in Jane Elliot’s exercises. If I were a participant in a similar activity, I would gladly be part of it. I totally agree with her that there should be a strong yet effective way to make people aware of discrimination and prejudice. However, since color skin people were so favorable in all of Jane method, it is also dangerous to see that they express their extreme emotion and attitude when white people said something that they think offensive. When color skin people feel so superior, they might act superior, which is also not a good sign to the concept of equality. Moreover, there is also discrimination in every aspect of life and society. Therefore, there should sometimes be a different separation of the groups beside eyes colors or skin color. For example, separation of tall and short people, skinny and fat people, etc. Short people and fat people are also the target of bullying and discrimination.
