Jazz is most often thought to have been started in the 1920s as this explosive movement, but that is in fact not the case. Starting in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century many African American musicians have started to explore their taste in improvising, and where better to do that than New Orleans (Anderson). Before the 1920s these jazz musicians have already been going around sharing the unique sound, but up until then, jazz had remained majorly in New Orleans. Jazz music had been around long before the 1920's because it was played by African Americans. Once white people stopped and listened, they fell in love. It became the craze and way of life. Jazz outlasted its era and was completely "American" (Baughman Vol. 3). The stars of this time were musicians who were African American.

African Americans are often credited as the creators of jazz, but it soon ranged through every minority. New York City and Chicago are two places where Jazz was played frequently.

It was also known as “the Roaring Twenties”. This movement coincided with the end of the World War I and the introduction of the mainstream radio. The era ended with the crash of 1929, which caused the Great Depression.
For social studies I selected two assignments which was really important for me. Those are booklet about “The jazz age” and a current event of governmental issues. My first assignment the jazz age booklet require a few art to draw and describe the meaning of the pictures, it involves some of my consideration to make sure everything what it needs. Everything don’t need to be completely designed out, but it must have what it’s required.
Jazz doesn’t have a specific date when it all started it and there wasn’t a specific person who started everything or one particular culture that influenced jazz. It was a mixing of souls and emotions of many people of many cultures. New Orleans is a multicultural city with influences such as French, Spanish, African, Italian, German, and Irish, they all add a little flavor to the pot. The city of New Orleans has more liberal outlook on life with an appreciation of good food, wine, music, and dancing. These influenced locals to take the sounds of what they heard in churches and the music they heard in barrooms.
This period of time was had famous musicians such as Joe “King” Oliver, Edward “Kid” Ory, and Louis Armstrong. These were very strong musicians who loved to entertain the people. The jazz age showed that African Americans had attractive fashion that always caught the attention of other people. The birth of jazz music came from African Americans. This led to the rise of radio broadcasting and recording technology, also the phonograph was invented.
The purpose of this post is to discuss something that surprised me about the jazz history we have learned throughout the class. After taking this very informative and interesting history of jazz class I would have to say what has surprised me most is the many different styles of jazz. It kind of sounds dumb, but I never realized that there were so many. I thought jazz fell into one genre of music. We learned about swing, bepop, cool jazz, free jazz, hard bop, and fusion, just to name a few.
At approximately, 3:05 Josh, Thomas, Hunter, Tim and myself arrived at 40 Church Street in Northborough Massachusetts excited and eager to hear some Jazz. However unfortunately we were not as fortunate to either hear much of any Jazz or see much of any major festivities. When we arrived my previous conceptions of what we were going to experience were just incorrect. What I believed this event to be was ultimately not what the event was.
History of Jazz music Jazz is music genre that originated from New Orleans in the early 20th century. A major port city, people from all over the world, of different ethnic groups came together and as a result, musicians were exposed to a variety of music (Verity, 2016). Jazz was born out of and evolved from the African American experience in the United States. Jazz evolved from slave and religious folk songs and its originators were primarily African American (Dyas, 2016). However, its roots can be traced from the musical traditions of Africa and Europe.
The society were fetching more lavish and which they were strained to money oriented things. F. Scot Fitzgerald showed how much the people that was in the Jazz Age was in his novel, which was the Great Gatsby. Mr. Gatsby has a huge party one time in a week at his home. Many people from all over New York City have came to have a part and be apart of the festivities. There was only a few that was selected and were actually given casual invitations and they were from Gatsby himself and had to attend all these parties.
