On February 26 2016 I attended the Jazz concert performed by the Shawn Edmond Quintet called “Exploration of The Cool”. Their first song, Tenor Madness started off as a fast pace, as they started playing we first heard the bass and the drums played by Thomas Brinkley and Marty Mourell, then it goes to Shawn Edmonds playing a solo on his trumpet he starts off fast and medium loud but tends to get louder as his solo goes on, then he uses crescendo making his solo louder and in depth. This piece was a jazz waltz and as they began Shawn Edmonds and Kenny Hamilton play a duet they sounded very nice together. They both blended together in this piece you can hear the trumpet take the dominant sound while the saxophone smoothly plays in the background. Then they all come in to play the melody it sounded just like a waltz sort of a skipping beat. It all flowed together while the drums went on with the same beat. Kenny Hamilton plays a solo it starts off very relaxing it kind of reminded me of elevator music, he keeps the same temp which was mezzo, then it begins to pick up this time with Marty coming in extending his part with a much faster tempo and louder. The followed by another trumpet solo Shawn Edmonds uses more of a higher dynamic this piece he comes in more strong and sticks with the melody, shortly after is a bass solo by Thomas and is collab with the drums, with the drums I feel like you could hear the depth of the bass more as he continues to play you can hear him in tune the melody in his solo as he ends the quartet begins the melody and ends with the trumpet dragging out the last …show more content…

Improvisation was a big key in bebop which “is the process of spontaneously creating fresh melodies over the continuously repeating cycle of chord changes of a tune.” This gave soloist a variety of form, ranges and techniques. The solos were complex harmonies with an edger sound, it made it harder for another band to copy any music from the musicians.
