Despite all of General Zaroff’s success, fortune and his appeared attitude, Zaroff is in many ways not civilized. Civilized means being polite, well-mannered or treating others with respect. Well Zaroff treats Rainsford good at first evident by giving him a cocktail, treating him to a meal, and hoping to hunt with him until he says “I wish to leave this island at once”. This quote hit Zaroff in his heart.
Lastly Dwyer and Flynn provide logical reasoning for why there were struggles with the evacuation process and why there was poor communiction between police, firefighters and co workers and citizens. "The 1938 code had required that the columns of tall buildings be able to stand against fire for four hours; the new code reduced that to three hours. For the floors, the earlier code had demanded three hours of fire protection, the new code cut that to two" (pg. 106) This quote shows how the bulding was getting more and more weak and unsteady through out the years with less fire protection which means the building is not capable to undergo huge amounts of fire and smoke from the attack. Which explains why the building collapsed just a couple hours after the attack.

Good grammar counts everywhere you go, especially in the work place. Both Susan Adams and Kyle Weins make great points in their articles. They both believe that using bad or good grammar shows your level of intelligence. Adams grew up with parents that was big on grammar. Grammar was a pet peeve in her house, in the article she mentions one.
In the article titled “I Won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar. Here’s Why,” published by Harvard Business Review on July 20, 2012, Kyle Weins claims as a business owner of two companies largely reliant on writing that good writers are more intelligent, are better at doing things completely unrelated to writing, and pay more attention to detail. Wein’s overall goal of the article is to show the connection between employees with good grammar and good work ethic. Wein’s is backing up his zero tolerance approach to bad grammar by showing these correlations. Potential employees may have prompted him to write the article because they felt his grammar test was unfair.
William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet opens in Verona, Italy. Two families with a burning hatred for each other cause havoc and fear throughout the city. In the classic novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Gatz, coming from a poor family of farmers, believes he's in love with the young and beautiful Daisy Buchanan. He alters his whole lifestyle and even his identity, becoming the wealthy Jay Gatsby, to impress and be reunited with Daisy. He doesn't care that it has been five years and that she is now married to the wealthy Tom Buchanan, who was born and raised in a rich lifestyle. Throughout the novel, it's revealing to the reader of Gatsby's infatuation toward Daisy. He stops living his own life just to find ways to satisfy her.
Harriet Tubman, a famous abolitionist, once said “I rescued a thousand slaves and I could have rescued a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves”. Many slaves of the 19th century were not able to read or write, and were completely oblivious to natural rights and other political situations happening around them. Alfred M. Green gave a speech in April of 1861 to recruit African American slaves to the army to fight for their freedom. In Green’s speech, he acknowledges the misery African Americans have already been through, points out the flaws in the enemy (the South); and motivates them to participate by using hortatory subjunctives, metaphors, irony, and other rhetorical strategies.
Ursula Le Guin defines Omelas as a utopia where the citizens’ lives are never wretched. Le Guin captures her readers’ attention by describing the city’s beauty with the colorful scenery, events featuring games and horse riding, and the everlasting happiness. She does a great job of leading her readers into thinking this could be the perfect society, but leaves us with the question of satisfaction. According to Le Guin, “happiness is based on a just discrimination of what is necessary, what is neither necessary nor destructive, and what is destructive” (p. 2). This quote means that there must be a balance for the society to succeed.
The novel that I can remember reading was A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. It may be a surprise to most people but English grammar was not taught during my high school years. This absence of not knowing correct grammar has made me struggle in many ways through my writing assignments. However, I have put a great amount of effort into learning English grammar by taking online courses to help me improve in this area. My strong efforts will surely help me within my career as a software engineer.
