Brahm believed that his music was to be enjoyed in his own lifetime, unlike most composers whose talent was neglected during theirs. Johannes Brahms grew up with a passion for music at an early age. His parents provided what they could financially towards music lessons and such but it wasn't enough so Brahm got a job playing piano in the neighborhood bordellos. Psychologically and physically, this job actually affected his personality and his life choices. He had witnessed violent sexual acts by drunken sailors and prostitutes and even experienced this himself as well. Brahms truly dedicated his life to his art and the passion he had for music. When Brahms was near his death, he carefully sifted through manuscripts and destroyed numerous works
