This post is going to be on an extremely important topic, diabetes. 1 in 4 people with diabetes, don’t even know they have it! This topic truly impacted me because both of my grandfathers that have already passed away had diabetes, so honestly diabetes is something that could be in my future. Recently, I read Sugar Nation by Jim O’Connell and I was pretty shocked from reading it and it opened my eyes to how severe the diabetes problem is in the world. The book is basically Mr. O’Connell’s recollection of being diagnosed pre-diabetic, his journey to find more information on treatment and how effective it is, and Mr. O’Connell’s father passing away from not taking care of his diabetes.

The Beatles and more specifically John Lennon had an immense impact on society throughout the 1960s to the 1980s. The Beatles affected society with their music by bringing about an age where experimentation with drugs, sex and hallucinogens (previously taboo) became the norm. They were also very popular amongst the new hippie counter culture as they too were anti-war and shared continuity with the ideals of the band. They served as examples and leaders not only to the hippies and other youth movements, but also to the youth of society in general. The Beatles and their music redefined the rules of society.
Lennon ended his song by repeating “If you want to be a hero well just follow me”. Since this song was written after John’s rise to fame, he is simply making an example of himself. After a life of hardship, he was able to overcome the oppression and make something of himself. He is one of the most well know rock stars of all time. These final lines in text came across very monotone, but if you listen to the song, John was very confident.
