February 7th, 1964, The Beatles land at New York’s Kennedy Airport, and they were greeted by 3,000 screaming fans. Six days before that The Beatles had scored their first No. 1 in America with “I Want to Hold Your Hand”. Two days later The Beatles would make their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. “ An estimated 73 million U.S. television viewers, or about 40 percent of the U.S. population, tuned in to watch”(History Top). But, what if “Beatlemania” never arrived to American soil.

When The Beatles originally came out with their first version of the “Yesterday, and Today” album it had a backlash from the public. Their original album cover artwork was nothing seen at the time, and a taboo concept behind it. The album had The Beatles dressed in doctor coats while holding baby dolls with their heads cut off covered in blood (ketchup) with slabs of meat on them. This was different from their other clean cut album covers that they had. The topics of the songs they were singing had also changed it was no longer just about love songs.

Influence from other artists in the music industry, the exhausting pressures of global fame, and the Beatles’ introduction to drugs influenced a change in their music during the “middle period” of the careers. While Beatles VI and Rubber Soul are vastly different from one another, both albums were released in 1965 and are considered a part of the Beatles’ “middle period.” During this period, the Beatles music began to shift from the sound of their earlier albums. The Grammy Awards have been around for close to sixty years and as of right now is a highly respected awards show that represented what people were listening to in that given year. Looking back now, one can see that, that was not always the case. In 1965, the 7th year for the Grammys, there was a wide amount of controversy surrounding the winners. The Grammys had added new categories like “Best Vocal Performance” and “Best Single,” but the category was labeled as “Contemporary(R&B)” instead of properly being labeled rock and roll. Because of this, The Beatles were snubbed in favor of Roger Miller, even though The Beatles had released HELP!, which is regarded as one of the top 5 best singles of 1965.
In the 60’s there were many bands, groups and solo artists that had various impacts on society. The 1960’s was a generation like no other. Social and cultural change were being demanded by young Americans and music was used to express themselves. Rock and Pop music had gained a lot of popularity by the late 1950’s but many Americans disapproved of these styles of music because they were viewed as often too sexual and against moral values. Two notable groups from the 1960’s are The Jackson 5 and The Beatles.
The Beatles had and continue to contribute to the development of rock and roll. There are many reasons why the Beatles are considered so essential to music and rock and roll history. The Beatles were different, a band that was completely unique for that era. Additionally, The Beatles have made many contributions to the development of Rock and Roll, they were a musical phenomenon that began the British invasion which untimely changed Britain and the entire world. Furthermore, the Beatles were largely responsible for the development and genre of Psychedelic rock and the rock ‘n ‘roll revolution, inspiring past, present and future artists.
Since the british invasion in the US during the 1960s, The Beatles had maintained a substantial role in the music industry. Hit after hit, they rose to same in this continent just as they had in Europe. Formed in Liverpool in 1960, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison left their mark in the world as one of the most successful and influential group of their era. Although unnoticed in America at first, The Beatles began gaining their popularity by appearing in the Ed Sullivan Show with a series of performance including “I Want to Hold Your Hand” (Larson 2013). Unbeknownst to them, this song would launch them into fame in this continent by staying in #1 for seven weeks.

The Beatles are not only the biggest band of their time, they are one of the biggest bands of all times. The Beatles did not just sing to sing, they sang to give hope to a generation, they set some of the highest standards in popular culture, they changed music forever, and they still manage to affect our generation today.
Before when The Beatles where still fairly new in the United States the media portrayed them as clean cut British guys who made good music. The medias eye had always been specifically on Paul and John for being the front men of the band, and the media loved them. Towards the end of the 60 's the media started to develop a different view on Paul and John. When Paul was caught with half a pound of Marijuana and sent to jail the media took this event as an opportunity to diminished the image of Paul by basically depicting him of being just a drugged up musician. John on the other hand was being spied on by the FBI.
They started new and innovative trends of experimentation with sex and started the idea of using drugs for recreation. They promoted peace and opened up capitalist society to the idea of socialism. These are all major themes which have forever altered the course of future societies and are themes that are still massive influences on our societal decisions today! The band consisted of John Lennon (1940–1980), Paul McCartney (b. 1942), George Harrison (1943–2001), and Ringo Starr (b. 1940)
It all started in Liverpool in 1960 when four men came together to create the iconic band, The Beatles. The English rock band members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were able to create timeless music that still continues to influence artists even years after the end of the group’s time. Not only did they surpassed every limit that was reached before them, they left a mark on the music industry that most artist can only hope they achieve. They changed the way music itself was created and the way it was presented to people listening all over the world.
Since February of 1964 when the beatles showed their music to the souls of America, everyone was hooked. The Beatles transformed not just the United States form of music but the entire world’s perspective on Rock and Roll; by their attitudes, style and sound. John Lennon and Paul McCartney are very famous names that have come up in many different topics. These guys are the vocalists behind the Beatles. Lennon and McCartney wrote over 300 songs together but not all were put to music and released.
