In 1692, a group of young girls from Massachusetts named Elizabeth and Abigail, believed they were being possessed by the devil and falsely accused several woman, men and children of witchcraft. Once the men and woman were accused they were ordered to attend multiple trials in which would be help in the Massachusetts general court. Once the men and woman were taken to trial they were proven guilty by the girls actions that proved the court these men and woman were apart of witchcraft. After the accuses were proven guilty in front of the court they were either held in prison and eventually died or hanged and died. There were multiple young girls who were apart of the witchcraft accusing other than just Elizabeth and Abigail.
Since the men were married they obviously the girls couldn't wait for them to go after there hand in marriage,so they went to a slave woman named Tituba she said that she could make the men that they desired drawn to them by practicing voodoo in the forest. They were caught by one of the village reverends and was asked for an explanation to what they were doing in the woods. Instead of telling the truth a girl named Abigail Williams said that they should lie about what happen a put all attention back into tituba. Then the people of salem confronted Tituba they beat her until she put the blame on the other women of salem, and the blame just circled around and people cracked under pressure of being hung until those who didn't have a good alibi and didn't have enough land or wealth to really make a stand for why they were prosecuted were

But John just said before Elizabeth came in that he did commit adultery and Elizabeth knows about it too and that the court should bring her in to test her to see if shes guilty because Elizabeth never lies. But she did lie and say he was a good man. That is when Abigail screams and says she sees a bird thats trying to attack her she says that it is Mary, when obviously it wasn’t it was just all an illusion to overthrow the court once again. That is where Mary steps in after a while and joins and overthrows that act to get her out from being killed. All the other girls join in and repeat everything Mary says because if they don’t Abigail will turn against them and accuse them of witchcraft.
She was arrested and placed on trial; she denied being involved and claimed to be pregnant, which saved her from being hanged because the baby was innocent. John tried to get his wife out of jail by exposing the girl's secrets. His attempts don't go as planned and he is accused of witchcraft in the end. Abigail runs away and John is hanged, all because she wanted to be John's lover; she got multiple innocent people killed and ruined the village's balance. The Crucible shows how far a lie or a twisted truth can go and just how much damage it can cause.
