John Wayne Gacy -a prolific serial killer- was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 17 1942. According to Bell and Bardsley (n.d), John Wayne Gacy was the second of three children, and was raised as a Catholic along with his siblings. He got along with his family except with his father, due to the fact that his father was a bit overbearing and also an alcoholic. As a juvenile and a young adult, John Gacy displayed perverted behavior, such as sodomizing two young boys, and was even convicted of these acts committed. After serving time in prison, John Wayne Gacy moved back to Chicago, where he established a new life. In 1972, Gacy married Carole Hoff, and moved in together. Gacy lured young men in his home –most of which he knew beforehand- and would show them his handcuff trick, in which then he would gain control over them. He would do this handcuff trick to gain control and be able to do with them as he pleased. After he tortured them, he killed them and placed them in the crawl space his home had, and would place lime to hasten the decomposition of the bodies. According to Inside the Criminal Mind (2014), when interviewed, Gacy stated he killed the “less dead”, such as young male prostitutes, male runaways, and the homeless. John Wayne Gacy targeted these types of victims because it was easier for him to kill and dispose of their bodies, and not have a large amount of people looking for the victim. Gacy was the owner of a construction company and hired young men to help him do work, and this was also another easy way to target young men. One of the victims Gacy saw as easy access to murder, John Butkovich, whom disappeared on 1975, and was one of Gacy’s workers (Bell and Bardsley, n.d). The fact that this young man worked with Gacy, gave Gacy a great advantage because he worked with the young man, and could find out information about his life situation and could get to know him more and figure out if he was an “easy”
