One interesting observation about each text 1.) Whitman, “Come Up from the Fields, Father” In Whitman poem “The come up from the fields, father” a part in the literature that caught my attention is when Whitman states “The only son is dead”. This attracted my attention because even though he states that in the poem it does not have to specifically mean Pete was dead. People in warfare can die in numerous ways it does not have to necessary mean deceased. They way i interrupted it was as if he lost a body part, couldn't speak, or a certain part of his body was dead. I felt it showed how powerful his public speaking technique were. The way i imagine him saying it made every word more passionate and indelible. 6.) Bierce, “What I Saw of Shiloh” In the literature it states “O’Day’s when all the world was beautiful and strange; when unfamiliar constellations burned in the southern midnights, and the mocking bird poured out his hear in the mood-glided magnolia”(Bierce). I felt this was important because this was the time he perceive the world as a beautiful place. The event of shiloh afterwards changed his whole perspective making him understand that evil could engulf the whole world in terror if people wanted to. Throughout history they call this a romantic period through American Literature. American Renaissance refers to a period of American literature from around the 1820s to the end of the Civil War. This was basically considered the movement developed out of efforts by various American writers to formulate a distinctly American literature influenced by great works of European literature. The text we read in this course helped me notice the american renaissance because some of the author literature we read contributed to the first generation of great American literature such as Abraham Lincoln, Walt Whitman, Fredrick Douglass, and etc. This was just an important time period through our history where a lot of thing happened such as woman rights, abolishing slavery, emancipation proclamation, and etc. This was just a period of national greatness and tragedy the USA grew
