Johnny Earle is a self-made man who started a clothing line from little of nothing. After watching one of his lectures containing a message about free enterprise, I learned that there is no such thing as a bad idea. One of his statements included, “All you need is a bunch of ideas and a positive attitude.” Johnny took a nickname given to him, Johnny Cupcakes, mixed with a little humor of pop culture and created a brand that appealed to a crowd. Marketing your brand is very important. You cannot be scared to take a risk. Johnny specially stated, “You have to spend an arm and a leg to make more arms and legs.”, meaning spend money to make more money. He went from an online store to a retail store on one of the most popular streets in Boston. Furthermore, I have learned that you need to be persistent in anything that you do. By the time Johnny was 16, he had 16 businesses. All of which have got better with age. He was not consumed of fear which leads to some of his brilliant ideas. Johnny also believed that every job that you do not enjoy is a stepping stone for something greater. As the lecture continued, he had an interesting opinion about wholesale and what it really meant. You have to find the right formula to make your ideas work. There is lot more to marketing than just product, promotion, place and price. You have to think about personnel, meaning customer service and making your product relatable. Also, presentation is an important factor as well. The layout of your product has to contain a “wow” factor. If you do decide to sell products in a retail space, the atmosphere of your store has to strike a certain mood; depending on the type of product you sell.
