I’m sure that you get a lot of the same stuff in these applications, most of which are just like the one that I am writing now. The reason that you are getting so many of these applications is probably one of two reasons: Applicant wishes to grow as a performer and get out of their comfort zone a little, or applicant loves the arts and to be a part of something special. If you have received another reason, please let me know what it is. Unfortunately, you will not be getting a third reason or different reason from me. I am applying for this scholarship because I too wish to grow as a performer and my love for the arts is what keeps me going. I think that this camp would help me learn new skills to accomplish this goal. Along with the speech team, I participate in Joliet Wests group interpretation. If you are unaware of what this is, it is a group performance of a written script using no costumes, props, or set. By taking away these aspects, the performers must create and tell the story using tableaus and through individual and choral lines. It is truly a beautiful thing to both be a part of and to watch. Both of these activities take up a lot of time, by a lot of time I mean getting to school around 8am every morning and not getting home until 9 or 10pm sometimes. In addition to Monday through Friday, on most Saturdays I wake up around 4am to get ready to compete all day and return home around 8pm. Although it’s exhausting, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. These programs have helped me to express myself in ways that I never thought possible and they have made me feel welcome beyond my wildest dreams. However, during the summer, these opportunities are not available to me and I feel off when I return to them in the
