He was an excellent student, and he graduated as a bachelor of with honors in 1852. He spent time with the greatest teacher of surgery (James Syme), and he ended up marrying his daughter. Lister was horrified by the dangers of operations, and he decided that he was going to make operations safer. What were his/her greatest accomplishment? - Lister’s greatest accomplishment was making operations and surgeries extremely safer. He learned that microorganisms caused infection. To stop this, he created methods of cleaning and dressing wounds with a solution of carbolic acid, and it decreased the occurrence of gangrene remarkably. He also introduced the sterilization of surgical objects including the use of heat and carbolic acid.
